Young Eagles

Have you ever wondered what it's like to fly?

eglelogo.gif (7909 bytes)An Eagle Flight member doesn't have to imagine what flying is like.  Each participant will become part of a special group of people who have shared in a common experience - the thrill of FLYING!  You will have the chance to actually fly in an airplane and look at the world below you.  You are invited to take to the skies and become a member of Eagle Flight.

The Young Eagles Program has been developed by the EAA Aviation Foundation to welcome young people into the world of aviation.  Aviation is exciting and vital to our nation's future.  Your child will experience a safe and enjoyable flight that will give new perspectives on the world and life in general.   Participation in the Young Eagles Program will help him or her understand that an individual's potential is unlimited.

What do I have to do to become a member of Eagle Flight?

If you are between the ages of 8 and 17, read this web page and print a copy of the Young Eagles Registration Form.  Fill out the top half of the form and be sure to have your parent or guardian sign the permission slip.  Take this permission slip to an EAA member and he or she will help you prepare for a demonstration flight in an airplane.

If live near Lebanon, Tennessee you can check our Chapter Calendar to find out  when the next Young Eagle Flight is scheduled.  Contact our Chapter Young Eagles Coordinator indicating your interest in participating in the Young Eagles Program.  We encourage church organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other large groups of young people to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

If you do not live in the Middle Tennessee area please look in the national EAA Chapter Directory to find the EAA Chapter nearest you.  Telephone or email the contact person expressing your interest in the Young Eagles Program.  They will be glad to help you because EAA Chapters all across the country support the Young Eagles program.

What are some of the benefits of becoming an Eagle Flight member?

At the conclusion of your flight you will receive an Eagle Flight certificate signed by your pilot and by Chuck Yeager, Honorable Chairman of the Young Eagles Steering Committee.   The certificate will look like this:

In addition to this handsome Eagle Flight Certificate, you will be entitled to the following benefits after your Registration Record and Permission Slip have been mailed into EAA Headquarters:

bulletYou will be registered as an Eagle Flight member.
bulletReceive a special issue of Sport Aviation for Kids magazine which will introduce you to aviation personalities and the wide range of activities available through aviation.
bulletHave your name listed in the world's largest logbook on display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosk, WI.
bulletObtain additional information on other aviation organizations and activities in your area
bulletReceive information on scholarship programs administered by the EAA Aviation Foundation.
bulletAnd more...

Will it be Safe?

Millions of people fly safely in airplanes every year.  However, an airport is not a playground.  Listen carefully and follow instructions given by your pilot and follow these simple rules when you are around the airplane:

bulletStay away from propellers
bulletListen carefully for instructions on entering and exiting the airplane.
bulletDo not touch any part of an airplane without the pilots permission.

What will my Flight be Like?

First of all, your pilot will explain what you will do and see.  This may include:

bulletTelling you about the airplane
bulletReviewing an aeronautical chart and identifying reference points you will look for during the flight
bulletCompleting a careful "walk around" preflight inspection of the airplane and identifying the parts that control the airplane
bulletHelping you buckle your seat belt and describing the interior of the airplane, including the instrument panel.

You will see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way.  You will experience the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about.  Like an eagle, you will soar among the clouds and understand the many possibilities of flight - and life in general - have to offer.  Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives.  You will, too.
